The provision of a new local Community Centre providing improved facilities as part of a larger over Housing works programme within Leek, Biddulph and Cheadle.
Client: Ascent Housing LLP
Location: Leek : Staffordshire
This site is one of 16 sites that have been redeveloped as part of the Ascent Housing programme, which is a joint development between Your Housing Group and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
This housing programme which ran from 2012—late 2015 proposed to deliver a total of 300 plus new homes across Leek, Biddulph and Cheadle, of which a minimum 70% would be as affordable housing for local people.
This specific scheme at Horsecroft Crescent in Leek was developed to house a new Community Centre which replaced another existing outdated centre on one of the other sites which has been also redeveloped.
Following consultations with both Council and Local Residents, the new centre was relocated nearer to the centre of the estate and closer to shops and local transport facilities.
The extra rooms within the centre, coupled with the increased flexibility of the new building, as well as specialist changing facilities will allow the centre to appeal to a far wider range of user groups than were previously accommodated.
A large existing area of Open Green space adjacent to the centre, has also been improved in terms of Landscaping & drainage and as such means that the user groups can expand out into this area when required.
