Colin was a founding member of the Practice.


Areas of specific expertise:

Low energy, sustainable, cost effective eco housing. Having worked on demonstration eco projects since 1998 he has become exceptionally knowledgeable on the practical issues related to constructing very low energy buildings. This has culminated in the construction of his own experimental, award winning zero carbon house. Click here for more information.

Housing for people with special needs. Having been interested in designing buildings to suit the needs of the disabled since the 1970s, he has worked to provide housing which deals with the needs of those who are elderly and infirm for the whole of his career. He also has experience in providing accommodation for those with dementia, autism and other diverse special needs.

Churches. As an active and charismatic christian, Colin has been involved in re-ordering existing church buildings and building new local churches for the Baptist, Methodist and URC denominations.

Implementation of computer aided design, BIM and IT. Colin has been at the forefront of computing in Architecture since adopting CAD in the early 1980s, leading to the introduction of Building Information Modelling into JMA a decade ago to enhance our digital design, CAD and visualisation technology.

Sketch designs and Feasibility Studies. With 40 years of experience behind him Colin can quickly grasp the cogent issues and produce hand drawn sketches for initial analysis.
