Broad Lane

Redevelopment and eco refurbishment of a derelict estate earmarked for demolition a decade ago by transforming 74 properties into state-of-the-art eco homes.

Client: Liverpool Mutual Homes

Value: £4.2 million

Completed: 2013

Location: Norris Green, Liverpool

Broad Lane on the Boot estate has a long history and was deemed of high importance to the community, so it was imperative to keep the streetscape.

With input from our Eco Division we introduced an array of sustainable measures:

  • Houses were over clad with a structural insulating system
  • Solar panels, ventilation heat recovery systems and LED lightings were used
  • Elevations were dramatically altered with old bay windows replaced with canopies, tripled-glazed windows and Juliette rails
  • Tenants’ fuel bills were significantly reduced and carbon emissions cut by 3,000 tonnes making them more efficient than new build house regulations
  • Internally, properties were stripped out and remodelled to meet modern needs with open-plan living designs
  • Front and rear gardens were landscaped with new walls and fences
  • All the homes were let in advance of the work being completed

The difference to the community is marked; a blot on the landscape has been transformed into an attractive, modern housing development.
