Andy joined the Practice as Technical Manager in 1997 having previously been the CDM Manager at Manchester City Council where he also held a senior position in the Regeneration and Maintenance Team.
A graduate of Manchester University, Andy is a Chartered Builder and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health, and as well as heading up our CDM service he has extensive experience in stock condition and general building and asbestos surveys and project management of the construction phases of developments. He also offers Party Wall advice.
He has also provided specialist advice and training for Clients and other Duty Holders on how to meet the requirements of the CDM Regulations and other associated Health & Safety Regulations that apply on Construction Projects. As our Technical Manager, Andy Howie, is a well-trained Specialist, Practitioner and Team Leader in Construction Health & Safety, and has been actively involved in this sector since the first set of CDM Regulations were enacted in 1994. At that time Andy was a member of the specialist CDM Duty Holders Group who liaised directly with the HSE Construction Inspectorate as the CDM Regulations 1994 were being formulated – this direct involvement has continued as the Regulations changed in 2007 and has included specialist joint training sessions with the HSE and Client Organisations. With regard to the CDM Regulations 2015, he has been in attendance at industry Seminars provided by the North West Construction Safety Group and the HSE Construction Inspectorate, which have been targeted at experienced Construction Health & Safety Practitioners to assist them in providing the necessary level of competent advice to their Clients and the Duty Holders under the new CDM Regulations 2015.
