THE DESIGN PROCESS
Architects progress through a series of work stages to deal with all of the design, regulatory & construction processes that take a project from inception to completion. Here is a typical overview.
INCEPTION: looking at the site and any existing buildings; meeting the client & beginning to formulate a brief.
FEASIBILITY: preliminary work to establish that the requirements of the initial brief are compatible with the site, building and budget constraints.
SKETCH DESIGN: initial drawn proposals showing the first response to the client’s requirements.
SCHEME DESIGN: Modify the proposals & the brief to reflect the greater understanding of the scheme being built up as the design process proceeds. Apply for Planning Permission.
DETAIL DESIGN: develop the scheme design to include construction details in conjunction with other specialists and consultants. Apply for Building Regs Approval.                    Next Page
